Technical Support for Church Media Resources Disc June 2008
Current known issues are as follows. If you know of others not listed here please email office@damaris.org
1. Starting
This disc should start automatically when inserted into a computer. If this doesn't work on your computer, click on pc_start or mac_start as appropriate.
Some other programs installed can stop autorun (e.g. some CD burning software and/or virus software). You can check if autorun is enabled on your computer from Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> CDROM -> Your Device -> Properties -> Settings
2. Screen resolution
This product is designed to work at a screen resolution of 1024x768 (or higher). If your computer (or data projector) has a lower resolution part of the display (and many of the controls!) will be lost off the right-hand-side of the screen. A warning should display telling you to change your screen settings. For guidance on how to change the screen resolution, see this help page from Microsoft. If you are not able to do that, then all is not lost - you can still access the individual files on the disc and use those on their own.
3. Responsiveness of controls
On older or lower specification computers some of the controls (menu, video player, skip intro, back etc) may appear unresponsive. This is a largely unavoidable result of the speed of your computer but can be improved by copying the entire content of the disc onto your computer's hard drive.
A link (top right) has been added before the exit button to say 'Increase video quality'; this switches on video smoothing and improves the video but uses more CPU resources. By turning this off, everything will play smoothly on a 4 year old laptop (1.7GHz and 512MB RAM). Click this to increase video quality and the link will change the link to read 'Decrease video quality'. You may toggle between the two. We have defaulted to switching off the video smoothing though so that it will play for the largest majority of computers.
If you have a newer computer you can click the 'Increase video quality' to improve the picture. If you find you are not able to click links while the video is playing, you will need to keep the video in the lower quality mode.
4. Pdfs, videos or webpages not appearing
When you click on a link to a pdf, video or webpage, the item should open in a new window in front of the programme where you can see it. If this does not happen then it means the new window has opened behind the programme. To bring it to the front, hold down the Alt button on your keyboard and press the Tab key once, then release the Alt button. This will switch behind the two programmes. (If you have other programmes open on your computer, you can press the Tab key repeatedly while holding down Alt to select which programme to switch to.)
5. Downloading video clips from the website www.damaris.org/narnia
Each clip has a preview, which allows you to view it from the website, and a choice of 4 downloads. The four downloads for each clip provide it in two different formats (wmv and mov) and for each format in two sizes. wmv format runs using Windows Media Player (which comes as standard with Windows); mov format runs using Quicktime Player (which comes with Apple Macs, but can also be used on PCs). Please download each clip in the format appropriate to the software you (or your school or church) is using.
It is your choice whether to download the larger or smaller version of each clip - obviously the larger-sized version will take up more space on your computer, but will be higher quality.
