Nick Pollard

Nick is the co-founder and International Director of Damaris. He is an accomplished author, speaker and broadcaster. He has written or co-written 10 books, appeared on many radio and TV programmes and spoken in countless venues across the world. When not reading, speaking or developing Damaris, Nick plays golf badly.

Experience

Nick has many years of experience as a speaker in Universities, schools, churches and many other venues. He is very popular and engaging for all audiences. Christians appreciate his clear Biblical exposition. Non-Christians appreciate the way in which he treats them with integrity; as he enables them to explore spiritual and moral issues in general and Christian faith in particular - at their own pace. Nick is particularly gifted at dialogue and debate - and has debated publicly with many atheist and agnostic scholars.

Nick is known for the way in which he uses a dynamic and engaging style of presentation to communicate accurate scholarly content - making it accessible to everyone.

Speaking topics

Nick is very happy to speak on a wide range of subjects but offers the following as particular specialities:

Thinking through the movies - Nick will expand any of his episodes from www.pollardonfilm.com into talks or workshops of almost any length

Understanding teenagers - an exploration of contemporary teenage culture, geared for audiences of all faiths and none. (Much of the material drawn from his book "Why do they do that?")

Looking for... - a series of talks geared for non-Christians considering the life and teaching of Jesus recorded in Mark's gospel - subjects such as Looking for love, Looking for peace, Looking for new life, Looking for spirituality, etc

The Good Sex Bible - a comprehensive guide to good sex, based upon the teaching of the Bible. (Much of the material drawn from his unpublished book of the same name)

Interesting people who aren't interested - training Christians to understand and help those who appear to be not at all interested in Christian faith.

Good Question - exploring and answering any objection to Christian faith, such as:

  • There is no such thing as absolute truth
  • The Bible is full of errors
  • Science has disproved Christianity
  • Faith is just psychological
  • Suffering shows there is no God
  • etc

NB Each of the above subjects can be condensed into one talk, or considered in more depth over a series of sessions.

Payment details

Nick doesn't receive any money personally for his speaking but uses it as a means of raising money into the Damaris Development Fund.

The normal payment into the Damaris Development Fund is made up of two components:

  • A speaker fee (depending on what type of organisation is making the booking):
    • Commerical organisations: £550
    • Charities, Educational Institutions and Churches (but not Damaris Partner Churches): £400
  • Travel expenses calculated at 40p per mile

Both parts will be invoiced by Damaris (i.e. you don't pay Nick anything directly) at the time of the event, and are subject to VAT if applicable.

SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT for Damaris Partner Churches

For Damaris Partner Churches there is no set fee. We simply ask you to:

  • cover Nick's travel expenses (at a rate of 40p per mile)
  • make an appropriate gift to the Damaris Development Fund
  • consider whether this might be a good opportunity to focus on your church's Mission Giving through Damaris.  Perhaps you would ask Nick to highlight some opportunities for giving to Damaris - and you might take a special offering. (N.B. In our experience it is best to give your people the opportunity to donate on the day when the speaker visits but also through the next week - since many people will want to consult and pray about how much they might give).

All payments should be made to Damaris, not to Nick himself.
