Arrangements for using Nick Pollard as a speaker

When you have booked Nick please look carefully at this page which will help you to ensure that you make the best use of his time with you

Briefing

Please send, to Nick's diary secretary, answers to the following questions:

  • Audience. What sort of people do you expect at the event? The more information you can supply about this the more Nick will be able to ensure his presentation is appropriate for your audience.
  • Timing and context. How long are you allocating for Nick's presentation (remember he can hold an audience for hours but can also make a big impact with a few minutes - but it is crucial for him to know how long he has got!) What will have happened before Nick speaks and what will happen after?
  • Strategic goal. Please give Nick just one sentence that sums up what you are hoping his presentation will achieve with your audience.

Equipment

Nick normally likes to show powerpoint and film clips.  This requires data projector and sound. In addition, if it is anything other than a very small venue Nick will need PA (it is not fair to the next people who have booked him if he has to strain his voice because pa was not provided).  Nick can bring all of these with him (although it makes travel difficult) or he can just bring the ppt and movies on a laptop or even just a data-stick to plug into your system.  Again please ensure Nick's diary secretary knows who is supplying which of these:

  • PA system
  • Data projector and sound (don't forget movies need sound!)
  • Laptop

Travel and accommodation

Nick prefers (for environmental reasons) to travel by train. But, if that isn't possible he will fly or drive.  Normally these arrangements are made by Nick's diary secretary, but the details and prices have to be agreed (remember you are responsible for covering travel costs).

Nick always has lots of other work to do and needs to work strange hours at a desk - that is why he always prefers to stay in a simple hotel (eg a Travel Inn), although he is very happy to eat with families in their homes.  Accommodation and meals is usually arranged by the organisation making the booking (particularly if it is overseas) but Nick's diary secretary can arrange it if required (remember you are responsible for covering accommodation costs).

Recording

Nick likes to have a recording made of his talks.  He can do this himself (he has a small recording device he will take with him) but often the organisation does this.  If that is the case please ensure that an mp3 file of the talk is sent to his diary secretary afterwards.

Materials

If appropriate we like to be able to give out materials about Damaris - but we are sensitive to the needs of the event.  Please discuss this with Nick's diary secretary.
