Speaking in a different country
Often Damaris speakers are invited to speak at events in a different country from the one in which they live and work. This usually means extra time spent travelling - eg a single speaking engagement overseas can entail two other days travelling. Therefore we cannot just work off the normal speakers fees, rather we offer two possible arrangements:
1. Organised locally
If you would like a Damaris speaker to travel to your country and speak, the first option is for you to organise and underwrite the whole trip. You may want to do this on your own, or you may possibly want to reduce your costs by finding other organisations who can use the speaker while he/she is in your country. This arrangement means that you have a firm booking from the start and can reduce your costs significantly - indeed you can even end up paying nothing yourself, if the contributions from other organistions cover all of the costs.
The process for this is as follows:
- you request the total number of days for which you would like the speaker in your country (for your own events and, if appropriate, those of other organisations who you hope will share the cost with you)
- we agree the total number of days this will require (including travelling) - and the appropriate speakers fee to cover that time
- you agree to cover the whole speakers fee, and the total travel cost to the country and the usual Damaris booking fee - plus you agree to cover all the local travel and accommodation costs. NB You now have the security of knowing that this is a firm booking
- perhaps you may then seek other organisations who will use the speaker for some of this time - and may ask them to pay you a contribution towards your costs. NB Generally, speakers will do a maximum of two events per day (but some are able to do more - please ask if you wish to arrange more than two events in one day)
- you collect all the contributions from the other organisations, ensure that all of the payments for the local travel and accommodation are covered - and make the one agreed payment to us for the agreed number of days and the total travel cost to the country.
2. Organised by Damaris
If you would like a Damaris speaker to travel to your country and speak, but you are not able to cover the costs of the whole trip nor to find other organisations who will contribute to the costs by using the speaker whilst he/she is in your country - we may be able to make the arrangements for you. This is less work for you but does mean that the booking is not firm until we have put a whole financially viable package together.
The process for this is as follows:
- you give us the dates/times of your events for which you would like the speaker
- you agree to cover the speakers fee for those events, and the usual Damaris booking fee and an agreed contribution towards the total travel cost and accommodation. NB This is not a firm booking until we have put together enough other organisations to make this trip financially viable
- you suggest other organisations who may like to use the speaker during this trip
- we seek to make bookings with them, asking them to pay appropriate speakers fees and contributions towards the total travel cost and accommodation
- once we have put together a financially viable package we will confirm the booking with you and the other organisations
