Study breaks

Study breaks are for those involved in Christian leadership or education who wish to spend a short time (less than 10 working days) with Damaris exploring the interface between Christian faith and contemporary culture.

There are other options for spending a limited period of time at Damaris and working with Damaris staff team members. Click here to find out which best suits your needs.

What's involved?

  • Open to people in Christian leadership or in education

  • For periods of less than 10 consecutive working days spent with Damaris

  • People on study breaks work on their own area of interest related to contemporary culture (Damaris team members can advise on subjects)

  • The primary outcome of the study will be decided on by the student in consultation with Damaris

  • A secondary outcome of at least one spin-off article (e.g. an article for CultureWatch which arises out of the main focus of the study break) agreed in negotiation with Damaris

What Damaris provides

  • Personal tutor who will provide reviews during the study break (usually at the beginning, mid-point and end - but decided by the person doing the study break in consultation with the tutor), as well as co-ordinating the following:

  • Guidance and direction for the study (including the suggestion of ideas for a major piece of research if appropriate)

  • Review and critique of the study outcomes

  • Editing and/or feedback on writing or presentations

  • Opportunity to present some of the study material to others within or outside Damaris (dependent on the time of year)

  • Opportunity to discuss ongoing involvement with Damaris including Damaris team membership with Damaris email address and web page

  • Access to Damaris library facilities

  • Access to a computer with broadband Internet access

  • Informal interaction with Damaris staff team members

Note: Damaris cannot provide accommodation or organise it for you, but we may be able to put you in contact with some people who may be able to help - either by offering accommodation themselves or by finding someone else who can.
