Leading a Culturewatch Group

Leading a Culturewatch Group need not be a major burden. Someone needs to take responsibility for making sure things happen, but the actual leadership of the meetings can be shared around the group members if that's helpful.

Some key aspects to consider:

  • Set a date, time and venue well in advance (most groups meet every four to six weeks)

  • Find a venue that is comfortable, with enough room for everyone and where you can have refreshments

  • Choose the subject matter well in advance (it might be worth checking with your local library to see if they have sets of books available for reading groups)

  • Download and print off copies of any Culturewatch study guides or articles you wish to use

  • If you plan to use one of the Culturewatch.tv or Pollard on Film video podcasts, make sure you have downloaded a high-resolution version from Tools for Talks and that you have the right equipment to play it

  • Keep the discussion focused, starting with some general reflections on how people found the book or film or whatever you are discussing, moving on to explore the ideas within it in some detail, and not forgetting to reflect on how it relate to a Christian worldview
