The Parable of the Good Samaritan: Luke 10:25-37

Books:    Luke for Everyone. Tom Wright. Westminster John Knox Press. 2004.

Read everything you can by this brilliant scholar. Tom Wright - currently the bishop of Durham - is a gift of God to this generation. This series, which I understand will eventually take in the entire New Testament, is fabulous.

The NIV Application Commentary: Luke. Darrell Bock. Zondervan. 1996.

I have really enjoyed this series of commentaries. What distinguishes them is the way they include a life application section at the end of each chapter, helping the reader make the connection between knowledge of Scripture and real life. A bit like deovox!

Poet and Peasant & Through Peasant Eyes. Kenneth Bailey. Eerdmans. 1976.

Ken Bailey is one of the world's foremost authorities on Middle Eastern peasant cultures. He didn't just study, he went and lived there for years. He will give you a whole new look at the parables and open your eyes. Wide. Enjoy.

This is the best website I found on the Samaritans. Their history and culture.

The Story of Zacchaeus: Luke 19:1-10

Books: Luke for Everyone. Tom Wright. Westminster John Knox Press. 2004.

          See above.

The New Testament World. Bruce Malina. Westminster John Knox Press. 2001.

This book provides an insight into traditional peasant culture of the first century. It's become a classic. It's not light reading, but is invaluable if you want to dig deeper into the world in which Jesus walked.

Music:

The opening track, called 'Sycamore,' is by Zehnder. I love these guys. They have a heart for the gospel and a love for Jesus that is second to none. Go visit their website at www.ztheband.com. They have a new album coming out soon.
