A few brief words on authorship
We are aware at deovox, that there is dispute regarding the authorship of Matthew's gospel. As you may know, none of the authors of the gospels explicitly state their names. Because of this, we have to rely on tradition. Matthew is the disciple traditionally associated with the gospel, following a first mention from Papias, bishop of Hierapolis, in the second century. The church historian, Eusebius, quotes Papias and endorses his view that the gospel was Matthew's. The church uniformly ascribed the gospel to Matthew. For this reason, and for the sake of clarity, presenters of deovox will refer to Matthew as the author.
