GSF2010 (London, England)

The Global Student Forum 2010 conference in London, England will take place on Tuesday 29th June 2010. Full details and the official registration form can be found in the GSF2010 brochure.

GSF2010 will use the title Education Beats Poverty as we join with people across the world to call for Universal Primary Education (the second Millennium Development Goal - MDG2). The key message of GSF2010 will be the dreadful fact that 72 million children across the developing world do not receive even a basic primary education . This exclusion from education limits their life chances. Without education how can they find a path out of poverty? Without education will they be able to live healthy, fulfilled, lives? What will it take to make MDG2 possible? And what role can UK school students play?

We will be working in association with the global 1GOAL campaign which is supported by FIFA (the football governing body) who will be giving it a lot of profile during the World Cup (which will be taking place in Africa while the GSF2010 conference happens in London).  So GSF2010 will be a particularly exciting focus for many students!

The Department for International Development will again be sponsoring GSF2010 and have, in fact, increased their support to enable us to increase our impact across the country. This means lots of valuable and exciting developments that will be announced on this website, but here is some advance information on two right now…

  1. In May 2010 we will appoint our first two GSF Beacon Schools. All schools who have become GSF2010 school partners by 30th April will be invited to apply. We will work closely with these two schools to organise a Regional GSF event in the autumn for all schools in their nearby Local Authority areas. This Regional GSF will be fully funded to cover venue, equipment, personnel and advertising. In addition, we will recompense the Beacon Schools for their work by a grant of up to £400 towards their travel to the national conference in London in June and up to £5,000 for teacher support. (In 2011 we expect to appoint three more GSF Beacon Schools and, if this pilot is successful, we hope to work towards every GSF school becoming a Beacon School in the future and each receiving these grants.)
  2. We have appointed a full-time National Co-ordinator to support our GSF schools and students throughout the year.  He will support all of our partner schools in their preparation and peer education, as well as the Beacon Schools in their Regional GSF events.

This is an exciting time to be a part of GSF and we hope that your school will join us for GSF2010. Full details and the official registration form can be found in the GSF2010 brochure.

(Please note our cancellation policy.)
