The UK Government is determined to be a leader in global efforts to defeat poverty. We are already the second largest donor in the world, and every year our work helps lift 3 million people out of poverty.

Across Britain people are working and campaigning for a fair and just world, free from poverty. The aim of this Global Student Forum is to give young people an opportunity to learn more about global poverty issues and to become champions for change amongst their peers.

DFID is sponsoring this event, helping the next generation better understand the world they will inherit and the meaningful contribution that they personally can make to reducing poverty.

Our 2008 Conference is being organised in association with War Child. War Child works with children affected by war in Iraq, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. These children have been hit hardest by the joint forces of poverty, conflict and social exclusion. The groundbreaking work with former child soldiers, street children and children in prison has supported and helped thousands who would otherwise not have been able to reintegrate with their community, gain access to education or enjoy sustainable livelihood support.
