Suggestion for use
- Show the first part of the programme - then freeze frame on the question "Ever thought someone was crazy for their beliefs?"
- Invite people to share their answers with one another.
- Invite feedback and discuss what our answers tell us about:
- our view of truth - how do we decide what is true and what is not? How do we react to people who disagree with us?
- our view of faith - when is it reasonable to believe? What makes one belief crazy while another is acceptable?
- our view of the world - does the world make sense? What impact can beliefs have on the world around us?
- Show the rest of the programme
- Deliver a short talk lifting off from the suggestion to look at biblical ideas of belief, evidence, and truth. You could look at John 8:31-32 and think about the importance of a commitment to truth, perhaps illustrating these ideas with contemporary quotes about belief, evidence and truth (NB these links into the large collection of relevant Bible references and contemporary quotes are free to anyone with a subscription to Tools for Talks - non-subscribers can obtain immediate access with a 1 year or 30 day subscription).
