Suggestion for use
- Show the first part of the programme - then freeze frame on the question "Do we need weapons to save lives and bring about a secure peace?"
- Invite people to share their answers with one another
- Invite feedback, and discuss what our answers tell us about:
- our view of conflict and peace - what causes wars and what does real peace look like?
- our view of morality - what are our responsibilities towards the world, and how do we decide what to do? Should our actions be determined by absolute values of right and wrong, or likely consequences?
- our view of people - can people change? Is it possible for us to live in peace together?
- Show the rest of the programme
- Deliver a short talk lifting off from the suggestion to look at Micah's prophecy of weapons of war turned into instruments of peace (Micah 4:3) - illustrating with contemporary quotes about war and peace (NB these link into the large collection of relevant Bible references and contemporary quotes are free to anyone with a subscription to Tools for Talks - non-subscribers can obtain immediate access with a 1 year or 30 day subscription).
