Wild Child and Neo-Tribalism

This programme, including clips from the film, explores the concepts of Neo-Tribalism and how a turning point was reached in Poppy's experience.

The programme invites discussion of the question "To what extent can we find security in a small group who adopt a style of clothes, behaviour and language?" - and sets up any talk about Neo-Tribalism, identity and community relationships.  It could also be used with a 'love your enemy' theme.

 Suggestion for use

      1. Show the first part of the programme - then freeze frame on the question "To what extent can we find security in a small group who adopt a style of clothes, behaviour and language?"
      2. Invite people to share their answers with one another
      3. Invite feedback, and discuss what our answers tell us about:
our view of identity - what gives us identity and for what do we strive in order to attain identity?
our view of community - what neo-tribes do we subscribe to? Are there neo-tribes within our church setting?
our view of people – how accepting are we of those from other social groups and those outside our church?
      4. Show the rest of the programme
      5. Deliver a short talk demonstrating spiritual identity and community through being a part of the body of Christ in relation to 1 Corinthians 12:12-30. Further mention could be made of Jesus’ rejection in his home town (Mark 6:1-6a) and his perceived identity as belonging to that community, and the disciples’ put-down of a man who wasn’t part of their inner circle (Mark 9:38-43)
