Based on Jodi Picoult’s novel of the same name, My Sister’s Keeper is a moving drama about a family’s battle with cancer. Kate (Sofia Vassilieva) has leukaemia and her mother Sara (Cameron Diaz) will do anything to keep her alive. Sara genetically conceives Anna (Abigail Breslin) as a means to create the perfect donor for Kate. When Anna is eleven, she hires a lawyer (Alec Baldwin) to sue her parents for the rights to her own body.

Concept: identity; fulfilment
You could use this video in a talk about identity or finding fulfilment. The people in My Sister’s Keeper define themselves in different ways: through their family role, accomplishments, struggles and freedoms. Why might basing your identity on earthly relationships, positions and possessions cause problems? Christians have a new identity in Christ as children of God. What are the benefits of this? You could also discuss what Jesus meant when he said, ‘I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full’ (John 10:10) and how this manifests itself in times of suffering.
