Required PC specification

Sound Card
4 x CD-ROM
Windows 95 or higher or NT
For best results
This game will run directly
from the CD, but the quality of the integral video will be affected by
the speed of the CD drive. Therefore, for best results copy the entire
content of the CD onto your hard drive and run it from there, by navigating
to the file called "Go".
Using this game over a network
The game will run over a network
- and requires no special installation other than copying the entire content
of the CD onto one of the drives on the network. The game can then be
played by any computer on the network by navigating to the game, using
windows explorer, and double-clicking on the program called "Go.exe"
HOWEVER - please read...
Using this game on more than
one computer
Provided you have purchased
a site licence (or the "schools version" which comes complete with the
site licence) you may use this game on more than one computer at a time.
This can be achieved by following
the instructions above (for using the game over a network) for a number
of computers on the network at once. However, the quality will be affected
by the speed of the network and the number of users. Therefore, for best
results...
Because the game uses so much
video we strongly recommend that you copy the entire content of the CD
onto the hard drive of each computer on which you want the game to run
- then, on that computer, navigate to the game, using windows explorer,
and double-click on the program called "Go.exe". To simplify
this for the user, we suggest that, on each computer, you set up a short-cut
that will run that file on their computer.
SPECIAL CONCESSION TO SCHOOLS
EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS RUNNING THE GAME OVER A NETWORK. Provided you have
a site licence we are happy for you to make multiple copies on the game
on CD and use them on your computers. Some schools find this to be the
simplest solution - just give out a stack of CDs at the beginning of a
lesson, pupils put them in their CD drive and the game automatically loads,
then at the end of the lesson the CDs are collected in. Of course you
must not let the CDs go outside of the school.
Known Issues
1 If President for a Day is
run on a computer with a minimum specification the program will work perfectly
but the sound may not always synchronise with the picture. The problem
does not occur on higher specification computers
2 In some situations you may
find that the videos play but not the sound effects or the music (you
will know whether this applies to you as soon as you start it since there
will be no music over the opening credits). This can be resolved by changing
the settings on Multimedia Properties (accessed by clicking on your "start"
button, followed by "settings" and "control panel") - change "Audio Playback"
to "Use any available device".
3. On some new PCs the game will not run properly due to a compatibility problem caused by the display drivers on some new computers. To fix this problem you will need to copy the content of the President for a Day CD onto your hard drive (as recommended above under "For best results"). Once you have done this, download this file and then move it into the "xtras" folder in the place where you have copied the content of the CD to. You will be prompted "do you want to replace the file DirectMediaXtra.x32?" - click Yes. With this new file in place, the game should now run properly.
4. That's all we know about.
